About the Artist
Alicia Visconti is a young, mainly self-taught artist who originates from Milton, Ontario. After moving to Ottawa in 2004 to pursue a Bachelors degree in Journalism at the University of Ottawa, she fell in love with the city and has lived there ever since.
Alicia enjoyed photography from an early age. Her mother, who teaches and studies art, always encouraged her daughter's artistic capabilities. During high school, Alicia took a film-photography class and toiled many hours in the dark room. It was there, after her first art exhibit in the school's tech hallway that she knew she wanted to be a photographer. In college, Alicia's photo-journalism class with instructor/photographer Ralph Palth, allowed her to further her skills while practicing proper composition and lighting techniques.
Alicia aims to create crisp, vivid photographs through isolating interesting objects in their true environment. She works mainly with a DSLR camera and produces both colour and black and white photographs. Alicia also uses a Giclée technique to print her photos on canvas.
She has traveled and photographed throughout Ontario, Alberta and Quebec as well as Europe, the United States and South America. Most of Alicia's subject matter focuses on urban and rural landscapes, fishing boats, nature and birch trees.
Alicia also enjoys writing and has had her work published in several student publications, community newspapers and Sun Media free papers.
Currently, Alicia is studying at The Ottawa School of Art under the instruction of Mauricio Flores Guarneros.
